This year we are offering a number of student travel grants and volunteer positions. These are as follows:

1. Travel Grants

SIGMM, SIGIR and SISCA will be offering a number of student travel grants. SISCA will be offering sponsorship for students at SICSA institutions, whereas SIGMM/SIGIR will be offering sponsorship for all students.

a) SIGMM and SIGIR Sponsorship

SIGMM and SIGIR will be offering a number of student travel grants in order to assist your journey to Glasgow, Scotland. The travel grant is meant to support travel and accommodation expenses of one student at the main conference. Students will have to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation. The exact amount will depend on the number of accepted travel grants.

  • Students being the primary authors of an accepted paper in the main conference or workshops will be given preference in the selection process.
  • Students without papers accepted for publication at ICMR 2014, but involved in research closely related to the topics of ICMR will be considered.
  • Female and minority students’ applications are especially encouraged.

b) SISCA Sponsorship

SISCA will be offering sponsorship covering the cost of conference registration for 10 Scotland-based students. More information regarding the application process and deadlines will be coming soon.

2. Student Volunteers

ICMR 2014 looking for student volunteers from within SICSA. There are many benefits and duties involved with being a volunteer, including:

  • Free conference registration (supported by SICSA)
  • Free t-shirt
  • Free attendance to all social
  • A chance to attend a premier forum for innovations in multimedia

Student volunteers will be required to help set up and perform needed work during the conference. Duties include: bag stuffing, registration desk, AV assistance, poster and demo setup, badge checking, break monitoring, etc. Volunteers will also need to be available during the conference if tasks come up. Student volunteers usually get to attend most of the sessions, even when working. There will be approximately 12 scheduled hours per student volunteer.
